Kat Shapiro Wood – Teacher
Biography of Kat Shapiro Wood
Kat has been based in the Northern Rivers since early 2007, continuing her work in sculpture, ceramics and painting, after previously practising in Sydney. She has exhibited locally at the Tweed River Art Gallery in Murwillumbah and Art Piece Gallery in Mullumbimby, as well as various galleries in Sydney.
She completed a Ceramics Major at the National Art School in Darlinghurst, Sydney, in 2006, and studied with the late Tom Bass at his Sculpture Studio School in Erskineville in 2002, going on to teach there, and with Damien Lucas at Catavento Studio, Bowral.
Her work in both sculpture and ceramics has centred on a love of clay, of material and technique, and the language of form. Through drawing and sculpture she has developed a deep understanding of the figure and the abstract.
Kat is excited to now be involved at the Myocum School of Sculpture and is looking forward to teaching with Damien and helping to provide a sculpture class that is unique in the Northern Rivers.
