Life Drawing to Sculpture – by Samantha Welch
The main purpose for our Life Drawing for Sculpture classes is to understand the structure of the body and how that flows thru to our sculpture ‘thinking’. Our students are progressing well with that foundation well set.
Life Drawing Class 2 – by Samantha Welch
We have found our pose which is indicated in the maquette of the first photo.

The following photos are of Damien teaching us to make our armature in wire and nailing the armature to the wooden broads.
It is very important to capture the gesture of the pose in the armature.

The next photos are of the students putting the clay onto the armature and we spent a good 3 hours working with the clay and looking at our model, moving around the studio capturing and understanding the pose.
Damien teaches us to roll the clay and draw with the clay.

A very productive day of work.
We have two students in our class who have never done any sculpting before and they are both really enjoying and learning the process.
All busy this week – by Samantha Welch
It was heads down and into it this week as can be seen by the following images:

Samantha who has completed her clay work and started putting shim lines into the sculpture with a first coat of pink plaster mould. The first layer of plaster is pink which will indicate the edge of the mould.
